House to Astonish Presents: The Lightning Round Episode 12

Posted on Saturday, December 24, 2022 by Al in Uncategorized

On the twelfth day of Christmas, my true love sent to me… twelve lightnings striking!

It’s time for the latest episode of our reread podcast covering Marvel’s most wanted, the Thunderbolts, and we’re looking at issues 31-33 of the original run of the book. This is the end of series cocreator Kurt Busiek’s run as writer, so we’ve got a little tear in our eye as we revisit Arnim Zola From Work, the Marvel Universe’s most deadly drug and Citizen V’s emoji mask.

The podcast is here, or available via the embedded player below. Let us know what you think, in the comments below, on Twitter, via email or on our Facebook fan page. And don’t forget to go one post down to cast your votes for the 2022 Homies!

  1. Zachary Q Adams says:

I don’t have much to say about the actual story, but I remember how angry “Fastlane” made me. I was a film student at the time and the first thought I had was “well, the MPAA has veto power on ads and they’d never allow a cannabis leaf on a billboard. Nobody could build a career entirely off of how cool it is to be a stoner!”

  2. Mark Coale says:

You had Rod Hull and Emu.

We had Wayland Flowers and Madam.

  4. Josie says:

I don’t have fond memories of Busiek’s post-Zemo issues aside from #25. I’m quite excited to get going on the Nicieza run. Not that it was great, but it was always an interesting and frequently bizarre read. I’m glad he took the parts that worked from Busiek’s run and dumped the Roy Thomas obsession with continuity plugging (which Busiek can do well, but not so much with Thunderbolts).

  5. Daibhid C says:

FWIW, I don’t think you did explain the Charcoal situation before; you explained about the contest, and then said something like “And that’s going to be a problem later, but we’ll get to that.”
