House to Astonish Presents: The Lightning Round Episode 4
Posted on Tuesday, August 3, 2021 by Al in Podcast
It’s time for lightning to strike four times, because… well, because it’s the fourth episode of The Lightning Round? We’re back with another episode of our spinoff reread podcast covering Marvel’s most wanted, the Thunderbolts – this time round, we’re covering Thunderbolts #7-9 and Heroes for Hire #7. Is it under an hour yet? Is it hell. Featuring: microfiche and Cheetos.
The podcast is here, or here on Mixcloud, or available via the player below. Let us know what you think, in the comments, on Twitter, via email or on our Facebook fan page. And our super-swell shirts are, as ever, standing ready for your call to action over at our Redbubble store.
Who wants an episode under an hour, except maybe your wives and children? 🙂
I’d think if Power Man and Iron Fist had disappeared in the 1970s, someone would have brought them back in the mid 90s, a la Pulp Fiction, because they personified 2 1970s cult genres (blaxploitation and Kung fu). You could easily see Robinson writing that book as Marvel’s version of Starman.
Considering the massive amount of democratically elected governments the US has knocked over for being slightly socialist it would be kind of hypocritical of Cap to throw shade at Wanda and Pietro for doing a little coup.
Doesn’t Citizen V’s mask always kind of have a face on it?
If Power Man & Iron Fist never teamed-up, I could see Cage having a trajectory like Sang-Chi; cool enough on his own to occasionally be revived and modernized, while Fist’s further career would go more like the Sons of the Tiger/White Tiger, with his powers eventually passing to a legacy character, probably one with less of the problematic racial stuff.
I think one thing to consider regarding Iron Fist and Luke Cage (and yeah, I’m having a go at answering my own question) is that the last writer of the solo Iron Fist series was Chris Claremont. So I don’t think he would have let the character fall into obscurity if he had been cancelled rather than paired with Luke. He almost certainly would have found a way to work Danny into the peripheries of X-Men somehow.
I actually do remember finding the arc with the Elements of Doom tiresome in a way I hadn’t found any of the previous stories. Interesting to learn now that there were problems (no pun intended) behind the scenes.
I wonder if Kurt has ever discussed what would have happened with the book if Heroes Reborn had worrked and they didnt end it after the year. I dont remember ever asking him about it.
