House to Astonish Episode 177
It’s been far too long, but we’re back with a brand new episode, talking about the shuttering and reopening of Manga Rock, Conan copyright scuffles, Terrific Production’s Youngblood, Brian Wood being shown the door at Dark Horse, the return of Hellboy, Once and Future becoming an ongoing, Marvel’s Incoming! and the newly-announced Disney+ MCU shows. We’ve also got reviews of Everything and Harley Quinn & Poison Ivy, and the Official Handbook of the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe could run and run. All this plus Marvel Unlimed, Snow White and the Seven Nazis and Mollie Sugden.

I can only imagine how delighted Al might be in someone actually doing “werewolf Iron Fist.”
A better analogue for MangaRock than Napster might be Crunchyroll or Fakku. Both started as piracy-driven sites and survived going legit; Crunchyroll is not only still around, it’s expanded since the AT&T buyout.
I hereby appoint myself… no, I just can’t say it.
Scourge’s massacre reminds me of that bit in Tales Designed to Thrizzle where he did Reservoir Dogs 2. “Okay, things went badly on our last heist, we were all pretty badly hurt. It’s amazing nobody died.”
Something I’ve been meaning to ask, as someone who has never made a podcast. Is there a reason you do such an extensive list of contacts and sources at the end? The list just keeps growing over time. In my uneducated opinion it would be easier and cleaner to say “For a full list of social media and podcast download sites, visit housetoastonish.com”.
Not trying to tell you how to do your thing, honestly, it’s just something I’ve long wondered about.
I suppose there’d be SOME people who actually bought the Japanese manga and used the site as a free translation service. It’s not like you can download subtitles.
FYI, Al, you have this tagged under ‘uncategorized’, not ‘podcast’.
Also, Al, do you ever do any writing anymore? I always enjoyed your blog posts.
Good catch, thanks! I’ve fixed that now.
And yeah, I’ve started writing about comics again, mostly at Steve Morris’s site Shelfdust. I wrote about one of my favourite issues of all time, Bone #10, for the 100 Best Issues series:
https://shelfdust.com/2018/12/18/the-finest-cow-centric-chase-scene-in-comics-bone-10/
and I’ve started a series writing about issues of New Warriors there too:
#17 – https://shelfdust.com/2017/11/06/new-warriors-17/
#13 – https://shelfdust.com/2019/06/26/new-warroulette-night-thrasher-vs-the-sphinx-in-new-warriors-13/
#36 – https://shelfdust.com/2019/07/24/new-warroulette-new-warriors-36/
The next one (on #4) is due up on the last Wednesday of this month, and there are at least another three more to come after that. Thanks!
